Foreign Film Night: Inshallah a Boy

United States

Join us for a screening of the Arabic drama Inshallah a Boy on Thursday, August 14th at 5:30 pm!

Produced by companies from Jordan, France, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Egypt, Inshallah a Boy follows Nawal, a recently-widowed woman. Losing her husband is devastating enough, but according to Jordan's patriarchal inheritance laws, her husband's family could take everything from her -- including her new house and custody of her daughter -- because she never bore her husband a son as an heir.

Stalling for time, Nawal pretends to be pregnant with a son. The word Inshallah is Arabic for "God willing," an idiom which, depending on context, can mean anything from "hopefully" to "literally only God could make this impossible thing happen." Inshallah, Nawal says, my baby will be a boy...

The film is unrated,  in Arabic with subtitles, and runs for 1 hour, 53 minutes.
